Growing a Generation of Girls Who Lead for the Planet

The climate crisis is not waiting for permission. Rising temperatures, flooded streets, polluted waterways and mountains of plastic waste are already shaping the world our children will inherit. At GERE Global, we believe the answer to that crisis is not only found in policy rooms and boardrooms. It is found in classrooms, in communities and in the hands of the young girls who are too often left out of the conversation entirely.

That is the work we wake up to do every day.

Who We Are

GERE Global, short for Girls for Environmental Resilience and Empowerment, is a non-governmental organisation committed to placing girls at the centre of environmental sustainability and climate leadership. We exist because we believe a greener, fairer future cannot be built while half of its potential leaders are standing on the sidelines.

Our conviction is simple. When you educate a girl, you do not change one life. You change a family, a community and, in time, a nation. The girl who understands her environment today becomes the mother, the teacher, the entrepreneur and the leader who protects it tomorrow.

What We Do
Our work is practical, hands on and built to last. Here is how we turn that belief into action.

1. Climate Awareness and Education

We bring climate knowledge directly to girls in their schools and communities. Through interactive awareness programmes, we help students understand what climate change is, how it affects their daily lives and, most importantly, what they can do about it. We move the conversation from fear to action, so that no girl feels powerless in the face of a problem she did not create.

2. GERE Clubs in Schools

Awareness alone fades, but community endures. That is why we establish GERE Clubs in the schools we work with. These clubs become a lasting home for environmental learning, where members are trained in real sustainability practices such as recycling Polyethylene Terephthalate (PET) bottles, managing waste responsibly and keeping their communities clean. The clubs keep the mission alive long after our first visit ends.

3. Environmental Ambassadors

We identify and raise up student leaders to serve as Environmental Ambassadors within their schools. These girls champion tree planting, lead by example and inspire their peers to embrace environmental responsibility. In nurturing trees and rallying their classmates, they also grow something just as important: the confidence, accountability and leadership skills that will carry them through life.

4. Tree Planting and Green Spaces

Trees are one of nature’s most powerful tools against a warming planet, and they are one of the clearest symbols of hope we can plant in a young person’s hands. We support schools and communities in planting and caring for trees, treating each one like a child that needs attention, care and the right resources to thrive.

5. Waste Management and Recycling

From PET bottle recycling to broader waste management education, we equip girls with the everyday habits that protect their environment. These are small actions with a large multiplier effect, spreading from the student to her home, and from her home to her street and beyond.

Why We Focus on Girls

For generations, climate and community conversations have centred on boys, while girls were quietly told to wait their turn or stay in the background. We reject that story.

Girls carry a natural capacity to nurture, manage and sustain both families and the environment, which makes them powerful stakeholders in climate advocacy. When we equip a girl early with knowledge and responsibility, we are not only protecting the planet. We are dismantling the barriers that hold her back and opening the door to leadership she was always meant to walk through.
